There have been some recent changes in the dynamic of Skeleton programs worldwide.  There are now 4 separate tours with fewer athletes designated to each.  A point system was established to allow all participating athletes to receive a world rank. Here is how everything is broken down...

WORLD CUP TOUR - This is the only tour that is completely funded by the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation. It is reserved for the top 3 men and top 3 women based off of team trial results. They compete on tracks all around the world and conclude the season with World Championships! (Click here for a list of track locations).

INTERCONTINENTAL CUP TOUR - This is a new addition to the FIBT that is reserved to those athletes ranked #4-6 in their respective nation. It is a highly competitive circuit, which competes on the same North American and European tracks as the World Cup Team. Unfortunately this is a completely self-funded tour that is critical to gain experience and is used as a stepping-stone to World Cup.  To qualify for Intercontinental Cup and World Cup, an athlete must have competed in 5 international races on 3 separate tracks in the previous 2 years.

EUROPA CUP TOUR - This tour is for athletes ranked #7 and #8 after National Team Trials. It is completely self-funded and all competitions take place in Europe. There are usually 3 - 6 races on this circuit each year. These athletes are competing against the same nations as the World Cup & Intercontinental Cup Teams. As of now, the USBSF criteria allows higher ranked athletes to compete in select EC races if scheduling permits.

AMERICA'S CUP TOUR - This is also a self-funded tour reserved for athletes ranked #7-10 after National Team Trials. This circuit only competes in North America, which consists of three tracks (Lake Placid, Park City and Calgary). There are two races at each location. The USBSF criteria allows higher ranked athletes to compete in select AC races as well.
