10 Year High School Reunion

I went to my 10 year high school reunion this past weekend in Glencoe, Maryland. I was so excited to catch up with everyone, including the teachers that were still there! Never in a million years would I have predicted I’d go to a small, all girls boarding school when I was just 14 years old. Ends up, it was the best thing I could have ever done! Oldfields is such an amazing place that I hope one day I’ll have a daughter that will want to experience all it has to offer.
This was an extra special alumni weekend because last year the school almost closed because of financial stresses. With a huge outpouring of support and a new Head of School (Taylor Smith), Oldfields is back on the right path! I got such a positive feeling from the current faculty and students, which reassured me the integrity of the school has held strong through the hard times.
There is a tradition that we open a ten-year prediction letter at the reunion.
Everyone writes a letter to themselves our senior year detailing what we think we’ll be doing ten years down the road. I wrote myself a book… there were some small things that were right on (ie: definitely still not married! haha) but nowhere did it mention Skeleton or Olympic Hopeful! If this let’s you know how much Oldfields meant to me…. I predicted I would be teaching Math (algebra to be exact) there and coaching the field hockey team. So, I was a little off J
Saturday night was the big dinner/dance and auction in the gym. They did an amazing job of transforming the space into a beautiful outdoor tent atmosphere.
Everyone had a blast catching up and break’n it down on the dance floor! Haha The highlight of the night for me was during the auction. Earlier in the day, my class requested that the former head of school’s wife (Mrs. Rogers) auction off her famous Chess Pie. She used to bake them for the girls on special occasions and it became a tradition while I was there. My class was determined to bid the highest for a taste of memory lane… Well, the good news is that the pies raised $1200 for the school but the bad news is that the Class of ’94 stole our thunder. We went home ‘pieless’ but felt good about our fundraising efforts!
Bottom line, it was an OUTSTANDING weekend! I left a bigger Oldfields fan than ever before and excited for the future of the school. I saw girls that I hadn’t seen since graduation and rekindled great friendships from the past. To all those who didn’t make it… We missed you! And you had better make it to our 20th reunion!!

This is for you Deals :) haha
Yay! Thank you! I wish I could have gone. Alas, wedding plans and buying our first house got in the way.
Did you write a 20 year prediction letter? We got to last year, but I didn't know if that was a tradition they planned on continuing. I sealed my 10 year up with my 20 year, so I'd have the entire "history" at my fingertips in 2018.
Miss you!
P.S. HAHA about the picture of you and Claire your freshman year! That's the hair I remember from "the runner" story during hockey try-outs!
