World Champs - Lake Placid - Day 1

I have such mixed emotions about today’s race. I’m sitting in 15th place with two more runs tomorrow. It’s tough being at my home track and not performing up to my potential. My runs weren’t perfect but they weren’t that bad either. I was sliding faster than I ever have before the last two weeks so it’s frustrating to be this far behind. Apparently, it’s not just me… Team USA as a whole is struggling with no one in the top 10. I have a good feeling about tomorrow... we'll step our game!

Tomorrow is a new day… Hopefully I’ll take my new “personal best” start time with me and leave the rest behind! I was so excited to finally push in the 50s… I’ve been at 5.60 for the last two years, so in a way this was a big day for me! There’s not much time to rest with all the sled prep and video review I need to do tonight so I’d better get going. Well, actually, I just want to get it done early so I can watch American Idol later! (Yes, I just admitted to my reality TV addiction) haha
I’m looking forward to tomorrow. More than anything else, I hope I can feel good about my sliding and finish off the year with a smile. Regardless of how I end up, I’ve had a tremendous second half of the season and I’m going to work harder than ever this summer to prepare for next year. I was so excited to race in Vancouver that this race is honestly, icing on the cake. All I can do is give it my best shot tomorrow and hope to climb a spot or two ☺
A HUGE THANK YOU to all the kids that were at the track today!!! The energy and cheers meant so much. You all really made it a special experience for me. It’s not often we have such a supportive crowd at the track… you all were awesome!
