Down Week... getting ready!

The past month has been so jam packed with non-stop competing, training, traveling, preparation, etc... I feel like someone slammed on the brakes the last few days.  We're back in Lake Placid, but unfortunately, we don't start sliding until Monday.  Usually we spend hours in the gym to fill up the day but we need to recover this week. I've been doing a mixture of sprints and light lifts to get ready for our race. Yesterday, I even got a massage to loosen up those muscles. It's a nice change from the constant go-go-go but we all seem a little bored.  It's a good thing I've got a thick book :)

Today I went out to the track to watch the first day of the Women's Bobsled Race.  I was pleasantly surprised at how many spectators there were roaming around at 10:00am.  There have tele-trons, concession stands and DJs playing music... It was really cool.  A few of us sat at a table and signed autographs for about an hour.  Everyone was so excited! These are the kind of things that mean the most to me throughout this whole experience.  To sit there and see a line form of kids that want me to sign posters, backpacks, t-shirts...WOW.  It reminded me just how far I've come. If I could send a message home with every one of them, it would be to DREAM BIG (which I wrote under my name)... Because I never in a million years would have imagined I'd be here today when I first discovered Skeleton.  I worked hard at a dream, took it one day at a time, and surrounded myself with supportive people.  When you're young... you can do anything you put your heart into.

I guess this bear added to the Adirondack theme... we were joking around with some of the spectators in the concession stand!haha
