Calgary Ice House Training
I arrived in Calgary, Canada a few days ago to train in the Canadian Ice House. The U.S. doesn't have a comparable facility so I usually make at least one trip up here during the summer to push. Our start is such an important part of our final down time that we spend the entire summer working on the technique of running with our sled. Calgary has an indoor iced track where we can focus on our push and not worry about sliding down the rest of the track.
The federation has decided to have a push championships this year so the team will arrive tomorrow. I came up a few days early to get some extra time on the ice with two of teammates. We'll only get two sessions in because the Canadians charge $270 per hour for ice time!! YIKES!! But it's definitely worth it because this on-ice training is SO valuable... I'm really glad I came up early! This was my first push of the season...
I've had trouble with nagging injuries this summer which has required me to alter my training. I was a bit nervous to see how much it would affect my start times here. Ends up I'm faster than I've ever been in my life! Pushing has never been my strong point and I don't expect any miracles at push championships but I'm looking forward to see where I'll stack up against the other girls. I'll keep you posted!!
